Brown Rudnick has appointed Michael Chung as partner in the firm’s Emerging Growth Companies & Venture Capital practice, based in New York. Chung joins from Fox Rothschild, a US law firm with 29 offices across the country.
Chung counsels startups and venture-backed companies throughout their growth cycle, including incorporation, fundraising, corporate governance, day-to-day operations, strategic partnerships and M&A transactions. He also represents venture capital funds, family offices, impact funds and corporate venture arms across a wide range of industries, including consumer products, new media, fintech, SaaS, digital health, AI and cybersecurity.
Chung co-founded RK Adler LLP in 2009, and helped build it into one of New York’s premier boutique law firms advising startups. The firm merged with Dentons LLP in 2015 and established its Venture Tech Center in Manhattan’s SoHo neighbourhood.
Chung has focused on working with firms dedicated to inclusiveness and funding for underrepresented founders. For example, Chung is a member of the board of directors for the Fifteen Percent Pledge, a fast-growing nonprofit aimed at creating sustainable and supportive ecosystems for Black-owned businesses and, in three years, has shifted $14 billion in revenue to Black businesses. Chung will continue that focus at Brown Rudnick, which works extensively with diverse and underrepresented founders, as well as venture capital firms and nonprofits that seek to diversify the VC industry.
Chung earned his JD from Brooklyn Law School and his BA from Tufts University.
