Applus, a company owned by private equity firm The Carlyle Group, has acquired French company Contrôles Techniques Services and Polish company Ekopol.
Applus is a Spanish multinational which specialises in testing, inspection, certification and technological services.
Contrôles Techniques Services and Ekopol are devoted to non-destructive testing. The former specialises in radiographic inspections and the latter in ultrasonic testing.
Non-destructive testing is a series of techniques and technologies used to determine and test the state and safety of installations and objects without altering their integrity. These inspections are used in the petrochemical industry and in other similar areas and generate a business volume of EUR2.5bn worldwide.
‘We are very pleased to announce these acquisitions in the current context,’ says Joaquim Coello, Applus chief executive. ‘We have concluded three acquisitions this year and will continue to strive to reach our growth targets.’
CTS and Ekopol will be integrated into Applus’ non-destructive testing division. This business area is known as Applus RTD and its headquarters are in the Netherlands.
In November 2007, Applus was acquired by The Carlyle Group, the global private equity firm.
