Carlyle strengthens US direct lending team with senior hires

Private investment major Carlyle has added two senior executives to its US direct lending platform as the firm looks to expand its share of the fast-growing private credit market, according to a report by Reuters.

Michael Meagher joins as Partner from Golub Capital, while JP Seminario has been appointed Managing Director from Silver Point Capital. Both will focus on origination and new deal flow, according to an internal memo confirmed by the firm.

Carlyle’s direct lending business has grown to $12.5bn in AUM from $2bn in 2016, though it remains a relatively small part of the group’s $200bn global credit franchise. Direct lending now represents roughly a third of the $1.8trn private credit market, according to Morgan Stanley.

The hires follow Carlyle’s recent appointment of former Goldman Sachs banker Alex Chi, who will take over as head of direct lending in early 2026.
