Carne makes new hires to support growing demand for AIFMD management companies

Carne Group has made two hires in its Irish office to support the increasing demand for its AIFMD management company services, including its independent ‘mancos’ in Ireland, Luxembourg and the Channel Islands.

Neil Clifford joins Carne from Irish Life Investment Managers where he was Head of Alternatives and oversaw an external hedge funds portfolio. He has also supervised ILIM’s illiquid investments in private equity and infrastructure, including acting as an independent director on a number of investee companies. Neil is a former equity fund manager and a qualified risk management professional.
Martin Anderson also joins Carne, having previously held senior management roles at RBC Investor Services including overseeing the bank’s sub-custody network and change programme. He has spent over 20 years in the funds industry, including 10 years at Northern Trust in Dublin where he held a number of roles, including Head of European Transfer Agency and Managing Director with the Irish fund administration business. Martin is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has also worked as an Audit Manager with KPMG in Bermuda.
John Donohoe, CEO of Carne Group, says: “As more asset managers from around the world choose Carne to help them with their AIFMD management company requirements, we are pleased to be joined by individuals of Martin and Neil’s calibre and experience in the funds industry. They will be helping to support the diverse governance, substance and distribution needs of alternative asset managers, including private equity, hedge fund, and infrastructure firms.”
With the addition of a Jersey-authorised AIFMD management company in October, Carne can now also provide support for fund managers seeking an AIFMD-compliant solution outside the EU. Carne’s risk management teams in Ireland and Luxembourg include several former fund managers and highly qualified risk management professionals able to provide risk management support to third party management companies.
John Skelly, Principal with Carne’s Dublin office, says: “Alternative investment managers both within and outside the EU have varying needs when it comes to meeting the requirements of the AIFMD and serving their existing and future distribution networks. Martin and Neil are joining a team that is now widely recognised for its expertise in supporting successful EU-targeted fund launches and re-domiciliation projects.”
