New York-based private equity firm CCMP Capital Advisors has appointed John D. Bowlin and James ‘Denny’ Shelton as executive advisors to the firm, focusing on investment opportunities in the consumer and healthcare sectors respectively.
Bowlin is a 30-year veteran of Kraft Foods and Philip Morris, where he held positions including president of Kraft and president and chief executive of Miller Brewing Company. Shelton has more than 30 years of healthcare experience, recently as chairman and chief executive of Triad Hospitals.
‘The addition of John Bowlin and Denny Shelton as executive advisors of CCMP is a natural extension of our long and successful history with both executives,’ says president and chief executive Stephen P. Murray. ‘CCMP’s operational capabilities will benefit meaningfully from John’s considerable consumer goods expertise and Denny’s distinguished career in hospital management.’
Bowlin is currently non-executive chairman of Pliant Corporation and Spectrum Brands and a director of Generac Power Systems. He was chief executive of Miller from 1999 until 2003, leading its sale to South African Breweries in 2002, and between 1985 and 2002 he held various posts at Philip Morris including president for international business at Kraft from 1996 to 1999 and president of Oscar Mayer Food from 1991 to 1993.
Shelton is currently chairman of Legacy Hospital Partners, a privately-owned hospital company launched this year to own, operate and manage acute care hospitals. He was chairman and chief executive of Triad following its spin-off from Columbia/HCA in 1999, having initially joined Columbia/HCA in 1994.
He previously held various executive positions with National Medical Enterprises (now Tenet), and was a hospital administrator in Louisiana, Iowa, North Carolina, Georgia, Illinois and Missouri.
