Chicago Equity Partners appoints Emerging Markets Equity Portfolio Manager

Chicago Equity Partners has added emerging markets equity portfolio manager, Venkat Eleswarapu, PhD to its team.

Eleswarapu joins the firm as a Managing Director and brings his emerging markets equity strategy (formerly Valant Emerging Markets Equity) from Trilogy Global Advisors, a fellow AMG Affiliate. He will continue to manage the strategy as he has since its 2013 inception, with the added resources of Chicago Equity Partners’ research team. Venkat commented on the move, “I am excited to be a part of a large team of seasoned quantitative investors and look forward to the cross-fertilisation of ideas with my new colleagues.”
Eleswarapu’s quantitative investment approach aligns well with Chicago Equity Partners, where systematic models are used to capture market inefficiencies and control risks. The firm offers comprehensive quantitative research resources that will complement and further enhance the established framework of Eleswarapu’s emerging markets equity strategy. Moreover, there was a strong cultural fit.
“We have crossed paths with Venkat multiple times over the years. Our shared belief in the power of factor investing makes him a natural addition to our team,” says Patricia Halper, CFA, Co-Chief Investment Officer and Partner of Chicago Equity Partners.
The firm had been searching for a proven emerging markets capability to continue the build out of its line of international strategies.
“The timing was right for both of us on this. We are fortunate to bring on an expert in the space with a strong track record, and with the support of our research and sales teams, Venkat will have the infrastructure to grow his strategy,” says Patrick Lynch, CFA, President and Founding Partner of Chicago Equity Partners.
Eleswarapu has a well-rounded background, bringing years of academic, sell-side and portfolio management experience to the firm. He grew up in India and came to the US for graduate school, earning his PhD in finance. He taught finance for more than a decade before entering the investment industry as a Senior Quantitative Analyst at Oppenheimer Funds. Later, at Macquarie Securities, he was Head of North American Quantitative Research. Eleswarapu then joined Trilogy Global Advisors as a Portfolio Manager, where he built what is now the Chicago Equity Partners Emerging Markets Equity strategy. He has lived and worked around the world and brings a global perspective to his approach.
