Chris Wade joins Octopus

Chris Wade, a veteran entrepreneur and the UK Trade and Investment’s (UKTI) adviser on venture capital, is to join the ventures team at Octopus as strategic adviser.

In this new role, Wade will be working with the ventures team, and its portfolio companies, looking to break into Asian markets.
Wade is currently an adviser to UKTI on venture capital matters. This follows two years as the director of the UKTI’s venture capital unit, where he was responsible for advising the government on the role of international investment in the UK’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
He is also a partner at Entrepreneur First, an accelerator programme for aspiring technology founders, as well as an angel investor and board member for a number of high-growth businesses, including Octopus-backed UltraSoc.
Alex Macpherson, head of the ventures team at Octopus, says: “Chris has been a long-time friend of Octopus and we are delighted to be welcoming him into the team. He’s already been a great resource for our portfolio companies – especially CertiVox – and his connections and knowledge of the Asian enterprise market are unmatched.  We look forward to working with him to better support entrepreneurs in looking both East and West when growing global businesses.”
Wade says: “My passion lies in supporting UK entrepreneurs and I am excited to be joining the team at Octopus who share this. When building global businesses, historically European entrepreneurs have looked to the US for expansion and investment opportunities; I absolutely welcome developments in this space that mean more and more entrepreneurs are looking to Asian markets.”
Wade will continue in his roles as UKTI’s adviser on venture capital and as partner of Entrepreneur First, as well as his various board commitments.
