Marcelo Claure, the former chief executive officer of SoftBank Group International and chief operating officer of SoftBank Group Corporation, has tapped some of his former colleagues for new Latin America-focused venture capital fund Bicycle Capital.

Marcelo Claure, the former chief executive officer (CEO) of SoftBank Group International and chief operating officer (COO) of SoftBank Group Corporation, has tapped some of his former colleagues for new Latin America-focused venture capital fund Bicycle Capital.

Joining Claure at the new business are managing partner Shu Nyatta, who co-founded SoftBank’s Latin America funds with Claure, as well as Felipe Fujiwara, Ezequiel Piantoni and Matthew Pieterse as partners to help invest. The three worked at SoftBank previously and are based in Sao Paulo and Miami.

Bicycle Capital is targeting $500 million for the initial fund with $440 million of that already raised between funds from Claure’s family office, Mubadala Investment Co and outside investors, including a group of 30 Latin American founders and business executives.

The firm, which will look to invest in Series B and later investment rounds, has been in talks for initial capital deployments but has not yet completed any funding deals.
