Columbia Business School establishes private equity programme

Columbia Business School has established a new Private Equity Program (PEP) under the direction of Professor Laura Resnikoff.

Columbia Business School has established a new Private Equity Program (PEP) under the direction of Professor Laura Resnikoff. The PEP will strengthen the School’s ties to the private equity industry by linking students, alumni and the business community.

Over the past several years, Prof Resnikoff has developed a number of initiatives geared toward the private equity industry, including an alumni advisory board, a series of alumni mentoring breakfasts, a mentoring program between Executive MBA and full-time MBA students who share private equity interests, and an annual joint event with the London Business School.

In her new role as Director of the PEP, Prof Resnikoff will serve as the School’s primary point of contact with the private equity industry. The PEP will also include course offerings, including Prof. Resnikoff’s new private equity course and her existing Turnaround Management class.

"Management education must keep pace with global business trends in order to prepare students for business leadership, and our Private Equity Program is one example of how we are constantly adapting our programming to the dynamic global economy," says Glenn Hubbard, Dean of Columbia Business School. "By providing points of access to the private equity industry and facilitating networking opportunities for students, alumni and practitioners, the Private Equity Program reinforces Columbia Business School’s commitment to linking theory with contemporary business practice."

Prof Resnikoff’s directorship will be supported by a Building Relationships with Industry and Defining Graduate Education in Business (BRIDGE) Fellowship, funded by a generous gift from a Columbia Business School alumnus. The fellowship is intended to support faculty members who are developing new initiatives aimed at bringing practitioners into the classroom.

Prof Resnikoff joined the Columbia Business School faculty in 1991 after a robust career with both large scale corporations and private equity shops. She has extensive global experience with private equity transactions, fund raising and debt placements. During her Columbia Business School tenure, she has consulted with corporations in a variety of industries — as well as selected not-for-profit organizations — on all aspects of organizational, operational and financial restructurings.
