Columbia Threadneedle launches US asset-backed securities fund

Columbia Threadneedle Investments has launched the CT US asset-backed securities fund, designed to meet growing demand from UK and European institutional investors, and defined benefit pension schemes, for high-grade securitised credit solutions.

The fund aims to deliver enhanced yield and diversification through a portfolio of predominantly investment-grade US securitised assets. It offers daily liquidity and is designed to complement the firm’s existing credit strategies.

The fund will be managed by the firm’s US-based team of 18 investment professionals, led by Jason Callan and Ryan Osborn, Co-Heads of Structured Assets. The team has over 25 years of expertise and more than $67bn in US securitised credit under management.

The launch comes at a time when defined benefit pension schemes are increasingly focused on operational resilience and risk management within their LDI strategies. For UK pension schemes, the new fund responds to evolving regulatory guidance from The Pensions Regulator, offering diversified, high-grade securitised credit exposure to help schemes strengthen their portfolios against market volatility.

The proposition is available to institutional investors in the UK and Ireland, with plans to extend availability to international investors in due course.
