Connection Capital appoints new portfolio manager to private equity team

Connection Capital, a specialist private client investment business, has appointed a new Portfolio Manager, Michael Coupland, to its private equity team.

Coupland will play a key role in monitoring Connection Capital’s private equity portfolio and will partner with portfolio companies throughout the lifetime of the investment, to strengthen the investor/investee relationship and provide support to enable business development and growth.

Coupland joins from private equity firm Caird Capital where he was an Associate Director specialising in portfolio management, working with investee companies across a range of sectors including Industrials, Healthcare, Business Services, Housebuilding and Construction.

Coupland started his career at KPMG, where he worked in both Tax and Corporate Finance, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Tax Advisor.

The appointment comes hot on the heels of Connection Capital’s busiest quarter ever, with GBP33 million raised across seven investments this summer. These included the MBOs of Torquay Leisure Hotels – a multi-hotel and leisure resort in Torquay and Mode Print Solutions, a London and South East-based managed print services company, and follow-on growth capital funding for 23.5 Degrees – a Starbucks franchisee and established Connection Capital investment, which is expanding rapidly and on track to 77 sites by this time next year.

Scott Barham, Portfolio Director at Connection Capital, says: “We pride ourselves on forging close, constructive relationships with our investee companies, adding real value by helping them navigate the private equity journey and maximise their potential along the way.”

“Michael’s high calibre skills and experience will enhance the capabilities of our team, enabling us to continue to support each investee business effectively as our portfolio expands. This is vital for us, especially after such a busy few months of investment activity. We’re delighted to welcome him to Connection Capital.”
