Cooliris raises USD15.5m in Series B funding from venture capital firms

Cooliris, which develops visual navigation for the internet, has completed more than USD15m in Series B funding from a group investors including Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, DAG Ventures, The Westly Group and the T-Mobile Venture Fund.

The firm has also announced the introduction of its newest application, the Cooliris Wall, which allows users to scan a 3D Wall of content from popular social media sites like YouTube and Facebook, professional news and entertainment sources, popular gaming sites, and users’ own computers.
 
Cooliris focuses on offering a better way to navigate images, video, and other media content. Tens of millions of users have downloaded the product, with daily unique download counts topping 50,000.
 
Cooliris is also extending its presence beyond the web. The latest version of the application now supports desktop photos so users can show off photos to their family and friends from their own computer on the Cooliris Wall.
 
‘With Cooliris we are enabling users to visually explore the world of information on the Web,’ says Austin Shoemaker, chief technology officer of Cooliris. ‘The Cooliris Wall represents a shift beyond linked text toward a more efficient and intuitive navigation experience.’
 
Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, the Cooliris team consists of seasoned engineers, executives, and entrepreneurs from companies like Apple, Electronic Arts, Google, Microsoft, and YouTube.
