Darby Private Equity (Darby), the private equity arm of Franklin Templeton, has completed an investment in Pharma Consulting Group (Biopas) through the Darby Latin American Private Debt Fund III (DLAPDF III).
Biopas is a specialty pharmaceutical distribution company focussed on in-licensing, selling and marketing innovative prescription pharmaceutical products, cosmetics and medical devices. Transaction details have not been disclosed.
Since Biopas was founded in 2002, it has expanded into 13 Latin American countries. The company’s primary market is Colombia, and it also has a strong presence in Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina. Biopas is headquartered in Panama and operates in
Chainalysis, a provider of cryptocurrency compliance and investigation solutions, has secured a USD30 million Series B financing led by Accel.
Benchmark also increased its investment in the company after leading its USD16 million Series A round last April.
Chainalysis will use the funding to support strategic product development of new cryptocurrency usage and open an office in London that will act as a hub for its research and development lab and regional expansion. Accel’s investment was led by Amit Kumar and Philippe Botteri. Botteri will represent Accel on Chainalysis’s board of directors.

Private equity investment firm HIG Capital (HIG) has completed a strategic investment in Digital Ware (Digital Ware), an independent software supplier in Colombia.
Headquartered in Bogotá, Colombia, and founded over 25 years ago, Digital Ware specialises in developing and selling ERP software, payroll human capital management (HCM) solutions, as well as hospital information systems and state-of-the-art business process management (BPM) applications for highly complex business environments.

Maven Capital Partners (Maven) and NVM Private Equity (NVM) have completed a GBP3.25 million equity investment in UK fintech start-up Mojo Mortgages (Mojo).
The investment, which has been equally funded by Maven and NVM, is part of a wider GBP7 million funding round, will support Mojo’s ambitious growth plans and help the Company further evolve its unique and intuitive platform to enable a more empowering experience for consumers looking for a new mortgage or associated insurance products such as income protection.
The mortgage market is well established with 1.6 million mortgages sold in 2017, generating GBP1.15 billion of fees.
Overall European private equity deal volume reached an all-time annual record of 2,230 in 2018, according to Preliminary figures released in the Q4 2018 Private Equity Barometer, published by unquote in association with Aberdeen Standard Investments.
Deal value in 2018 reached an 11-year high of EUR199 billion, with Q4 the weakest of the year with 497 transactions, down 12 per cent on Q3. Value also had a slow end to the year at EUR30.5 billion, the lowest since Q3 2016.

Alantra Private Equity fund has acquired a majority stake in the capital of Frías Nutrición (Frías). The management team will continue to be a relevant shareholder in the company, maintaining its involvement in the management and daily operations of the business.

The market for private equity (PE) collateralised fund obligations (CFOs) continues to gain traction post-financial crisis, according to Fitch Ratings. Since the first post-financial crisis CFO deal came to market in 2014, five transactions with a face value of USD3.4 billion have been issued.
“The resurgence of the PE CFO market coincides with the growth of the secondaries market for PE interests overall,” says Greg Fayvilevich, Senior Director, Fitch Ratings. “Insurance sponsors, secondaries funds, and various limited partners are increasingly looking to PE CFOs for regulatory capital relief, alternative funding sources, PE portfolio management or to generate liquidity.”

HIG Capital (HIG) has completed the sale of its portfolio company Caraustar Industries (Caraustar) to Greif, Inc for USD1.8 billion.
Headquartered in Austell, GA, Caraustar is a specialist in the production of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) and coated recycled paperboard (CRB), with a variety of applications that include tubes and cores and a diverse mix of specialty products. Additionally, Caraustar is also one of the largest collectors and processors of recovered fibre in the United States. The Company services its diversified customer base through a large network of facilities across North America.
HIG acquired Caraustar in May 2013 in
athenahealth, a provider of network-enabled services for hospital and ambulatory customers nationwide, has been acquired by an affiliate of Veritas Capital (Veritas) and Evergreen Coast Capital (Evergreen) for approximately USD5.7 billion in cash.
Virence Health (Virence), the former GE Healthcare Value-based Care assets that Veritas acquired in 2018, will combine with athenahealth under the athenahealth name and brand.
