Geospatial Insight, a specialist in visual intelligence derived from geospatial big-data, has secured a GBP3.5 million growth equity investment from Foresight Williams Technology EIS Fund and VenturesOne Investments. UK bookseller Waterstones has been acquired by funds managed by activist hedge fund manager Paul Singer’s (pictured), Elliott Advisors. Waterstones operates a chain of 283 bookshops located across the UK and Ireland, and in The Netherlands and Belgium, and had sales of over GBP400 in the year to end April 2017.   Lynwood Investments, controlling shareholder of Waterstones since 2011, will retain a minority stake.   Founded in 1977, Elliott is one of the oldest and largest private investment organisations globally, with funds under management of approximately USD35 billion. Tikehau Capital, an alternative asset management and investment group, is in exclusive negotiations, to acquire a minority stake in Nexteam Group, a supplier in the machining of complex parts and hard metals for the aerospace industry. The acquisition of this minority stake alongside the management team aims at supporting the future development of Nexteam Group.   Nexteam Group, which has operations in France, Poland, and Romania, is a French company specialising in precision engineering and the machining of hard metals for the aviation, aerospace, and defence sectors. Vistra, a provider of international incorporations, trust, fiduciary, private office and fund administration services, is to acquire Radius, a specialist US-based provider of international expansion services, from private equity firm Hg. The transaction doubles Vistra’s International Expansion Services (IES) business, making it a market leader in IES services, including the number one market position in the USA. Headquartered in Brighton, Paladone specialises in the design, development and wholesale supply of licensed and own brand gifting products. Paladone has established strategic license partnerships with leading global brands including Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, Star Wars and Nintendo. BuildingConnected, a provider of software for real estate owners and general contractors to facilitate selecting contractors for construction projects, has secured USD15 million in new funding from Brookfield Ventures, Brookfield Asset Management’s new venture fund. Kirkland & Ellis is advising Toys’R’Us on the sale of its stores in the DACH region to Irish-British toy retailer Smyths. The transaction volume was not disclosed. In September 2017, the US toy retail chain Toys’R’Us filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
