Digital Reasoning, a specialist in artificial intelligence (AI) that understands human intentions and behaviours, has raised USD30 million in a new funding round led by BNP Paribas.
Angel Rodriguez-Issa, Global Head of Strategic Investments, Global Markets at BNP Paribas, has joined Digital Reasoning’s board of directors.
Barclays and Square Capital also joined the round, as well as previous investors Goldman Sachs, Nasdaq, Lemhi Ventures, HCA, and the Partnership Fund for New York City.

Private equity fund manager YFM Equity Partners (YFM) has backed the MBO of Checkmate Fire Solutions Limited, UK-based passive fire protection provider.
The investment in Checkmate Fire marks the fifth investment from the YFM managed fund, YFM Equity Partners 2016 LP.
Checkmate Fire is the UK’s leading passive fire protection company, providing fully compliant services including survey, design, specification and installation of solutions for fire stopping/air sealing, compartmentation, fire boarding and structural steel protection. Complementing this Checkmate Fire also specialises in fire door surveying, restoration and installation, and provides a fully bespoke range of fire resistant glazing solutions.
Farmstead, a new AI-powered digital micro-grocer that curates and delivers fresh, local foods from farm-to-fridge in 60 minutes, has secured an additional USD2 million capital infusion, led by Resolute Ventures and Social Capital, with additional participation from SV Angel and Y Combinator.
This latest round brings Farmstead’s total seed funding to USD4.8 million to date.
Farmstead will use the new funds to scale operations of its rapidly growing AI grocery sourcing and delivery service, continue building out its core AI technology, accelerate hiring, and expand its service well beyond the Bay Area.

Funds managed by Equistone Partners Europe (Equistone) have invested in BOAL Group, a designer and manufacturer of high-performance aluminium greenhouse roof and side-wall systems for glass and poly greenhouses.
Equistone will acquire a majority stake in BOAL Group from its current CEO Ronald Boers and the founder of the business, Marinus Boers, both of whom will retain a minority shareholding. BOAL’s management team will also acquire a minority stake in the business. The financial terms of the deal are undisclosed and the acquisition remains subject to clearance from anti-trust authorities.

Ropes & Gray has advised Ensono, a hybrid IT services provider based in the US and Europe, on its USD405 million acquisition of a hosted data centre services business from Wipro Limited.
As a result of the deal, which was announced on 14 March 2018, Ensono – a portfolio company of Charlesbank Capital – has acquired eight data centres, employing over 900 people, significantly expanding its geographic footprint and global services capabilities.

iM Square, a European investment and development platform dedicated to asset management, has secured a new financing commitment from Eurazeo, one of its founding shareholders.
Eurazeo is committed to support iM Square’s investments over the next few years and is expected to become its reference shareholder. Other founding shareholder Le Groupe Dassault/La Maison will also participate.

Metro Bank has provided the highly prestigious Z Hotels with GBP18 million of funding. The capital will be used by the company to acquire a five-story office building just off Trafalgar Square in central London.
