Fenwick & West has released the results of its First Quarter 2013 Silicon Valley Venture Capital Survey, which analysed the valuations and terms of venture financings for 118 technology and life science companies headquartered in the Silicon Valley that raised capital in the first quarter of 2013.

Hyperoptic, a UK provider of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband technology, has received an equity investment commitment of GBP50m led by Quantum Strategic Partners.
Quantum is a private investment vehicle focused upon long duration investments and managed by Soros Fund Management exclusively for the benefit of George Soros and Soros family clients.
The new funding will enable Hyperoptic to meet its ambitious plans to reach more than 500,000 homes with its market-leading 1 Gbps true fibre hyperfast broadband within the next five years.

Capital Dynamics, a private asset manager, has invested in a 21-megawatt (MW) onshore wind farm project in Northern Ireland.
Capital Dynamics holds a 100 per cent ownership stake in the project called the Dunmore wind farm.
Capital Dynamics has commenced construction of the project and has secured a 15-year agreement with a major UK power retailer for the purchase of the energy produced by the seven turbine scheme. This means investors will begin receiving steady streams of income immediately upon completion of the project and commencement of power generation, both of which are expected in the first quarter

Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
The transaction is expected to close in approximately three weeks, allowing time for certain procedural requirements. Blue Wolf and Atlas, both New York-based private investment firms, have long track records of building forest products companies in North America.

US Debt Ventures, a private equity firm that has acquired over USD750m in non-performing loans to date, has secured a USD100m revolving credit facility from a major financial institution.
The facility gives US Debt Ventures increased capacity to further expand its successful non-performing loan and REO disposition model.
The firm expects to surpass USD1bn in total portfolio purchases in 2013 and following the close on this financing facility, US Debt Ventures plans to deploy committed capital through national non-performing loan and REO portfolio acquisitions.

The aggregate value of all disclosed value deals grew 58 per cent year-on-year to USD36.4b, according to Ernst & Young’s Global technology M&A update: January – March 2013.

HBJ Gateley has advised the private equity firm Azure Investments on its acquisition of Dundee-based construction business Muirfield Contracts, as the builder seeks to target Scotland’s thriving energy sector.
Despite the continuing difficulty in the building industry, Muirfield has posted consistent year on year growth, with GBP2m profit from GBP42m turnover in FY2012/13.
