EQT is exploring options for the sale of enterprise software company SUSE in a transaction that could value the business at as much as $6bn, according to a report by Bloomberg citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.
The private equity group has engaged advisory firm Arma Partners to gauge interest from potential private equity buyers, the sources said. Discussions remain preliminary and EQT has not yet made a final decision on whether to proceed with a formal sale process.
EQT took Luxembourg-based SUSE private in 2023 in a deal valuing the company at approximately €2.7bn. A sale near the top of the reported valuation range would represent a significant uplift in value within roughly two and a half years.
Founded in 1992, SUSE was among the earliest providers of enterprise Linux distributions. The company develops open-source software used by organisations to run applications across cloud environments, mainframes and edge computing systems.
SUSE generates roughly $800m in annual revenue and more than $250m in EBITDA, according to Bloomberg’s sources. Its customer base includes major corporations such as Walmart, Deutsche Bank and Intel.
