Jeff Zucker, the former boss of CNN, is in advanced talks to join RedBird Capital Partners, a private equity firm with a focus on professional sports investments, according to media reports.
Zucker, who prior to CNN headed up WarnerMedia’s Turner Sports division and also led NBC’s Olympic Games coverage, is being lined up to lead a new $1 billion sports investment fund at RedBird.
The firm already has a diverse portfolio of professional sports investments having recently acquired Italy’s AC Milan football club. RedBird is also the third largest shareholder in John W Henry’s Fenway Sports Group, the parent company of Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox, English Premier League club Liverpool FC, and the National Hockey League’s Pittsburgh Penguins.
