Piper Jaffray Companies has held the final close of Piper Jaffray Merchant Banking Fund II, a USD130 million growth equity fund. With the closing of Fund II, Piper Jaffray Merchant Banking manages USD275 million of committed and invested capital through Fund II and its two prior growth equity funds.   Fund II will invest in commercial-stage businesses with strong growth prospects within industry sectors covered by Piper Jaffray equity research and investment banking. Celestica, a specialist in design, manufacturing and supply chain solutions, is to acquire Impakt Holdings, LLC.   Impakt is a highly-specialised, vertically integrated manufacturer providing manufacturing solutions for leading OEMs in the semiconductor and Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display industries, as well as other markets requiring complex fabrication services. Founded in 1977, the company is headquartered in Santa Clara, with operations in California and South Korea.   Through this acquisition, Celestica expects to gain significant, new capabilities in large-format, complex, high-mix manufacturing solutions for multiple industries, and broaden its precision component manufacturing, full system assembly, integration and machining capabilities.
O’Melveny has represented Future Beat, a provider of VIP experiences for concerts and other events, in its sale to On Location Events, the official hospitality partner of the NFL.  Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.   Based in Los Angeles, Future Beat provides fans with a wide array of unique experiences at concerts and events around the globe. Private equity firm The Riverside Company has sold BeneSys, a provider of third-party administration (TPA) services for employee healthcare and pension benefit programs for Taft-Hartley multi-employer plans. The Troy, Michigan-based company services more than 180 clients across the country.   Riverside invested in the platform in 2014 and saw strong potential in the company’s deep operational knowledge of multi-employer funds, and it offered a proprietary, scalable software platform to deliver mission-critical services for its customers.   “It was a pleasure working with such a strong management team, and we very much benefitted from the company’s leadership position in its industry,”
Sky and Edge Investments have both made a further investment in TRX, a B2B online licensing platform for TV rights. The investment round of GBP2.9 million (which was also supported by other existing private investors) brings the total funds raised by TRX to GBP14 million. TRX will use this latest investment to develop further its proprietary technology and to continue its worldwide rollout. TECHNEDs Investment has signed an investment deal with Poole-based unified communications provider Crystal Clear Telecom, aimed at building Crystal Clear Telecom into Dorset’s leading UC provider through organic growth and base acquisitions. Crystal Clear Telecom will benefit from TECHNEDs’ experience in building technology businesses. Carey Olsen’s investment funds team in Jersey has advised private equity firm Epiris on the launch and final closing of its UK-focussed buyout fund, Epiris Fund II, at GBP821 million. The fund, which has already made four acquisitions, has secured commitments from some of the world’s leading private equity investors, including public and private pension funds (34 per cent), endowments and foundations (30 per cent), asset managers (22 per cent) and private investors (14 per cent).   The fund’s strategy will be focussed on targeting UK-headquartered business with an enterprise value of between GBP75 and GBP500 million, investing between GBP40
Halcyon Capital Management (Halcyon) has sold minority stakes to TPG Sixth Street Partners (TSSP), the global credit and credit-related investment platform, and to Dyal Capital Partners (Dyal), a division of Neuberger Berman Group. Virtual reality provider ARena Space has attracted investments of USD7.7 million from the processing company Rucard. The deal was structured by a venture fund IP Fund. Financing will be directed primarily to the development of the company in the international market. In particular, ARena Space will open its branch in Amsterdam.   The money also will be spent on the development of VR and AR products for the mass market, the creation of a fund for developers of virtual and augmented reality content and a network of new-generation VR parks in Europe and the USA.
