MCG Capital has closed a USD20m investment in Midwest Technical Institute (MTI).
MCG’s investment consists of a senior secured unitranche credit facility and revolving line of credit.
MTI is a private, post-secondary school providing career education in the fields of welding, HVACR, allied health and cosmetology with five campuses across Illinois and Mississippi.
MCG’s investment is made in conjunction with the recapitalisation of MTI by Summer Street Capital, a private equity firm with more than USD550m of capital to make equity investments that typically range from USD15m to USD30m.
Northstar Offshore Group (NOG), a portfolio company of private equity firm Natural Gas Partners, has completed two shallow water purchases in the Gulf of Mexico for a combined total of USD160m.
On 11 October, NOG acquired the Creole field, located in West Cameron Blocks 2 and 3 in the shallow state waters of Louisiana. On 16 October, NOG acquired a group of shallow water properties located in the federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico’s central region.

Private equity firm Arbor Investments, in partnership with management and chief executive Timothy Fallon, has acquired Columbus Manufacturing, a portfolio company of Endeavour Capital.
Columbus, headquartered in Hayward, California, is a branded manufacturer of retail ready, super premium, artisanal salumi and related deli meat products. Terms of the sale were withheld.

Main Street Capital has sold the majority of its equity interest in Laurus to a private equity investment firm, which has previously made numerous growth investments within the healthcare sector.
Main Street realised a gain of approximately USD9.9m on the deal. As a result of this disposal, Main Street has now realised a 3.4x return on its total debt and equity investments in Laurus, a developer and manager of outpatient healthcare facilities.

The Carlyle Group has completed its acquisition of Getty Images, a creator and distributor of still imagery, video and multimedia products, in a transaction valued at approximately USD3.3bn.
With the completion of the transaction, The Carlyle Group has acquired a controlling stake in Getty Images.
Getty Images co-founder and chairman Mark Getty and the Getty family have rolled substantially all of their ownership interests into the acquisition. Getty Images management, including co-founder and chief executive officer Jonathan Klein, has invested significant equity in the company.

Grey Mountain Partners has acquired the assets of North American Specialty Glass (NASG) out of Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.
Headquartered in Pennsylvania, NASG is one of the largest safety and security glass producers in the US, serving customers worldwide with high-performance transparency systems for transportation, architectural, military and other specialty end-use applications.
Additionally, NASG is an industry leader in the development of glass and polycarbonate laminate technology.

European Capital and its affiliates have received proceeds of EUR27.9m by exiting their existing investments in Unipex Group.
European Capital has also completed a EUR20m investment in the multi-currency (including USD and EUR) unitranche bonds supporting the Unipex Group’s acquisition by IK2007 Fund, advised by IK Investment Partners.
Both transactions occurred in September 2012.
Unipex Group is a manufacturer and distributor of natural active ingredients and specialty chemicals for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, nutrition and industrial sectors. Unipex Group has completed four build-up acquisitions extending both its geographic reach and product offering.

WL Ross has completed the purchase of 4.4 million common shares of Navigator owned by Lehman Brothers Inc (LBI) for approximately USD110m.
The transaction was approved by Bankruptcy Judge James M Peck of the Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York overseeing LBI’s liquidation in connection with LBI Trustee James W. Giddens’ role in maximising value for the shares for the benefit of customers and general creditors.

Private equity firm Ampersand Capital Partners has sold medical device design company MedVenture Technology to Helix Medical, a manufacturer for the medical device and healthcare industries.
Established in 1998, MedVenture is headquartered in the Louisville, Kentucky metropolitan area and employs over 260 associates. MedVenture develops and manufactures minimally invasive surgical devices and catheter-based devices for medical device companies, including Fortune 500 and medical device start-ups.
