AXA Private Equity has agreed to acquire a majority 70 per cent stake in Bruni Glass, a European provider of glass containers for spirits, food, pharmaceutical products and related accessories. Alongside AXA Private Equity, the founding members and the management of Bruni Glass took part in the deal with a total stake of 30 per cent. Bruni Glass, founded in 1974, has been a market leader in glass containers for wine, champagne, food and pharmaceutical products for over 35 years, with a particular expertise in speciality products, often developed to meet a customer’s specific requirements. Bayside Capital has completed the sale of portfolio company Environmental Filtration Technologies (EFT) to Nederman Holding. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and with locations across North America, Germany, France and Australia, EFT is an industrial air filtration company. EFT offers air pollution control and air filtration equipment, including industrial dust collectors, baghouses, air and liquid filtration systems, filter bags and cartridges, as well as equipment and engineered systems for evaporation and distillation. EFT markets its products under the globally-recognised MikroPul, Menardi, Filtex and Filter-Media, LCI and Pneumafil brands. Medical device company Mainstay Medical has completed an oversubscribed series B financing round for USD20m (EUR15.3m) led by Fountain Healthcare Partners. Other new investors in the series B round include Medtronic, Capricorn Venture Partners and Seventure Partners. Existing series A investors Sofinnova Partners and Twin City Angels also participated. This funding will advance the ongoing development of Mainstay Medical’s disruptive new medical device for the treatment of patients with chronic non-specific low back pain. As part of the financing, Mainstay Medical relocated its head office and executive leadership to Dublin, Ireland from Minneapolis, Minnesota US. The World Health Organization reports

Private equity firm Riverstone has committed to invest up to USD200m in Kerogen Energy. With offices in Houston, Texas, and Calgary, Alberta, Kerogen is focused on onshore unconventional oil and liquids exploration and production in the US and Canada. RAMP has completed a series C financing led by New York-based StarVest Partners. As part of the transaction, Deborah Farrington (pictured), co-founder and general partner at StarVest, will be joining RAMP’s board of directors. StarVest is also joined by Hearst Interactive Media and EDBI as new investors in RAMP, along with participation from existing RAMP investors Fairhaven Capital, Accel Partners, General Catalyst Partners, and Comcast Ventures. Mimecast has secured USD62.15m in series C funding led by private equity firm Insight Venture Partners, with existing investors Dawn Capital also participating. Business Growth Fund (BGF) is investing GBP5.4m of growth capital in Swanbridge Hire and Sales (SHS), a provider of high specification industrial scaffolding services based in Barry, South Wales. This is the fourth investment to be led by BGF’s regional team for the South West of England and South Wales; and SHS is the first business to be backed by BGF in Wales.  The investment was managed for BGF by Paul Oldham, Ned Dorbin and Alex Garfitt. First Investors Financial Services Group has entered into a definitive merger agreement with FIFS Holdings Corp, a company controlled by Aquiline Capital Partners, a New York-based private equity firm investing in the financial services sector. Under the merger agreement, FIFS Holdings will acquire all of the outstanding shares of First Investors common stock in an all-cash transaction valuing First Investors at GBP100m. Stockholders of First Investors will receive GBP13.87 for each share of First Investors common stock they hold. Onex is to acquire KraussMaffei, a manufacturer of plastic and rubber processing equipment, for EUR568m. The transaction is anticipated to close by 31 March, 2013 subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals.   Based in Munich, Germany, KraussMaffei designs and manufactures machinery and systems for the processing of plastics and rubber. The company manufactures machinery for the injection moulding, extrusion and reaction process segments. KraussMaffei has approximately 4,000 employees and operates key manufacturing facilities in Germany, Switzerland, Slovakia and China. Arma Partners acted as the exclusive financial adviser to Butterfly Software, a privately held data analysis and migration software company headquartered in Maidenhead, UK, on its sale to International Business Machines. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Butterfly will become part of IBM’s software group.   Butterfly offers storage planning software and storage migration tools, helping customers save storage space, operational time, IT budget and power consumption. IBM will use Butterfly to help clients find new ways to drive greater value from its storage software and hardware solutions.
