Private equity fund Elaghmore has successfully closed an additional GBP30 million fund to add to its initial Elaghmore Fund 1.Elaghmore co-founders David Manning and Andy Ducker, first launched the fund in December 2016 with an initial raise of GBP60 million from institutions in the US and Europe. Elaghmore has now raised an additional GBP30 million from US institutions to create Elaghmore Fund 1A. The new fund will help Elaghmore capitalise on a growing number of new acquisition opportunities in line with its strategy.

Bpifrance and PROPARCO have announced the first closing of Averroès Africa, their fourth fund of funds for Africa. With a target size of EUR 100m, Averroès Africa will invest in African funds dedicated to start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises in order to continue to support private sector development, employment and innovation on the continent. The Averroès mechanism was launched by Bpifrance and PROPARCO in 2003 to support the development of the private equity market, initially in North Africa, then across the continent with the launch of a first pan-African vehicle (Averroès Finance III) in 2015.

Edgify, a company building AI training frameworks, has secured a USD6.5m seed funding round backed by Octopus Ventures and Mangrove Capital Partners.Edgify’s technology enables any connected device – known as ‘edge devices’ – to interpret vast amounts of data generated at the edge, train a complete AI model locally, and proceed to share that learning across an entire network of similar devices, thereby training them all to identify unique aspects of a given object for use of computer vision, NLP, voice recognition and any other form of AI.

Mavason Limited, a subsidiary of the Abris CEE Mid-Market III LP fund, managed by Abris Capital Partners, has signed an agreement with the fund 21 Concordia and its founders to purchase the majority of shares in R2G Polska, operating under the Apaczka brand – a Polish e-commerce delivery solutions provider. Kirkland & Ellis has advised Avanti Acquisition Corp, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) that will target European businesses with a strong US nexus, in connection with its USD600 million IPO. The SPAC was sponsored by NNS Group, the investment group founded by entrepreneur Nassef Sawiris, and Sienna Capital, the alternative investment platform of Groupe Bruxelles Lambert (GBL).
