Goldman Sachs Chief Credit Strategist leaves the firm

Lotfi Karoui, Chief Credit Strategist at Goldman Sachs, is set to leave after 18 years at the firm, according to a report by Bloomberg citing an internal memo. His departure follows a series of senior research and strategy transitions within the bank, including the upcoming retirement of Goldman’s chief US equity strategist.

Karoui joined Goldman in 2007 as an associate in the credit strategy team. He became a managing director in 2015, chief credit strategist in 2017, and was promoted to partner towards the end of last year.

Karoui recently downgraded European investment-grade bank bonds to underweight from neutral, cautioning that sovereign fiscal risks could weigh further on the banking sector.
