Grid efficiency, and energy security

The last ten years of global politics have posed a serious challenge to globalisation. Trade tensions, a global pandemic, and wars across Europe and the Middle East have demonstrated the challenge of energy security in a world of complex supply chains.

In response, investors are looking to double down on renewables, now seen as better guarantees of energy independence than their non-renewable predecessors. This includes the solution providers helping to build the grid resilience designed to support renewable-driven independence. On today’s Stories of Transformation we sat down with Thomas Friedberger, co-CIO of Tikehau Capital, to discuss how investors can approach the energy security challenge.

We cover why the firm views renewables as a private equity, and not infrastructure, opportunity (1:39); why decarbonisation is in the interests of energy security (2:41); why the solution provider market is most mature in Europe (5:35); how Tikehau are investing in grid efficiency (8:05); and how this serves the energy security theme (9:48); the potential supply chain risks for renewables (12:16).
