Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) has raised $1.6 billion for its first private equity fund focused on making investments in companies providing climate change and environmental solutions, according to a report by Reuters.

The report cites a segment by GSAM as confirming the final close of the Horizon Environment & Climate Solutions I fund, which first launched in 2021 and provides ‘growth capital’ to companies developing clean energy, sustainable transport, waste management, and sustainable food and agriculture solutions.

The fund has made 12 investments to date ranging in size from  $80 million to $90 million, including Northvolt, a Swedish battery developer and Recover, a company that recycles textile waste to create sustainable fibres.
