HIG Capital has appointed former Blackstone executive Younghee Choi as Head of Asia within its Capital Formation Group, as the alternative investment firm looks to deepen relationships with institutional and private wealth investors across the region.
Based in Hong Kong, Choi will oversee capital formation activities across Asia for HIG’s global private equity, credit and real assets strategies.
Choi brings more than 15 years of experience in private markets and fundraising to the role. She joins HIG from Blackstone, where she held senior positions spanning its Institutional Client Solutions and Private Wealth businesses.
Most recently, she served as Senior Managing Director and Head of Korea Institutional Client Solutions, where she was responsible for developing relationships with institutional investors and helped expand Blackstone’s private wealth fundraising activities in South Korea.
At HIG, Choi will be responsible for expanding the firm’s Asian LP base and strengthening its relationships with both institutional and private wealth investors.
Jordan Peer Griffin, executive managing director and global head of HIG’s Capital Formation Group, said Choi’s experience and investor relationships would support the firm’s efforts to expand its presence across the region.
Choi said she would focus on deepening existing investor relationships, broadening HIG’s footprint in Asia and connecting regional investors with the firm’s range of global investment strategies.
The appointment comes as HIG continues to build its global alternatives platform. The firm has approximately $75bn of capital under management and invests across private equity, private credit, real estate and infrastructure.
Its investment strategies span middle-market buyouts, recapitalisations and corporate carve-outs, alongside senior, unitranche and junior debt investments. Its real estate and infrastructure businesses target value-add and core-plus opportunities.
Founded in 1993, HIG has invested in and managed more than 400 companies globally. Its current portfolio comprises more than 100 businesses with combined revenues of more than $53bn.
