HSBC AM adds two new strategies to private credit portfolio

HSBC Asset Management (HSBC AM) has expanded its global private credit platform with the addition two new strategies – the Global Transition Infrastructure Debt strategy, and the European Senior Direct Lending strategy.

The newly launched Global Transition Infrastructure Debt strategy, which has already secured over $240m in client commitments, focuses on investing in senior and second lien debt, targeting mid-market borrowers across investment-grade countries in Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region.

With the global push towards net-zero emissions by 2050 requiring an estimated $275tn in infrastructure spending, this strategy aims to offer investors the chance to finance key assets that support the transition to a sustainable economy, including investments in clean power, energy efficiency, and clean industry projects.

According to a press statement, HSBC AM’s Infrastructure Debt team, which has raised $4.1bn since its establishment in 2017, will leverage HSBC Bank’s extensive global origination network, alongside external banks, advisers, and project sponsors, to identify and secure investment opportunities.

HSBC AM is also broadening its direct lending reach with the introduction of the European Senior Direct Lending strategy, an extension of its existing UK Direct Lending strategy, which was originally launched in 2020.

The new strategy, which brings total commitments across the HSBC Direct Lending platform to $2.4bn, focuses on senior secured loans to private equity-backed, mid-market companies in Europe, particularly those with EBITDA between €10m and €35m.

The strategy has already played a key role in the refinancing of Creditinfo, a leading global provider of credit information and risk management solutions. With the second close of this strategy now completed, fundraising efforts will continue through 2025.

These new strategies are part of HSBC AM’s broader push to enhance its alternatives capabilities, which span private markets, private credit, hedge funds, real assets, venture capital, and flexible capital solutions. As of June 30, 2024, HSBC Alternatives manages and advises on assets totaling $71.1bn.
