Impact accounting, and the quantification of social outcomes

Despite social impact growing in importance for investors, it remains firmly behind financial returns. That could soon change, with the social consequences of investments being quantified and directly compared with financial performance.

On today’s Stories of Transformation we are joined by Sir Ronald Cohen, a pioneer of impact investing, to discuss how this process can work. Born in Egypt, he would arrive in the UK aged 11 having fled the persecution of Jews. He went on to co-found venture capital firm Apax Partners, and global network GSG Impact.

We discuss why impact investing can be beneficial for financial returns (1:31); how social impact can be quantified (3:49); how to get broad agreement on a set of impact measures (7:19); and why investors are driving impact investing in private markets (10:33).
