Tribal Nova, a Montreal-based developer of parent-friendly virtual worlds and online educational gaming services for three to 12 year olds, has announced the closing of a CAD3m growth financing round from iNovia Capital and ID Capital.
"Tribal Nova is well positioned to succeed in a market that has great potential for growth," says Chris Arsenault, managing partner at iNovia Capital. "Children are consuming media and entertainment in new ways these days, with a significant amount of time and attention spent on the internet. Media companies recognise that fact and are searching for different ways to engage their existing audiences."
Daniel Cyr, managing partner at ID Capital, adds: "By partnering with leading, recognized media companies from around the world, Tribal Nova demonstrates that it produces top quality immersive online environments that kids find fun and engaging, and that parents approve as being safe and secure for their children.’
Tribal Nova has already partnered with the following media companies to launch educational online gaming services for three to six year olds in the US, French and Canadian markets: PBS, whose programming reaches more than 115 million people each month on-air and online, for PBS Kids Play; CBC for the upcoming Kids’ CBC Wonder World; and Bayard Jeunesse, a publisher in France, whose publications reach 36 million readers, for BayardKids.
"Tribal Nova is quickly becoming recognized as a leader in this field," say Tribal Nova co-chief executives Guillaume Aniorte and Pierre Le Lann. "The funds and hands-on assistance from iNovia Capital and ID Capital will help our aggressive expansion from the markets of North America and France into new international markets, in addition to supporting the growth of our new, virtual world KidStudio that is targeted at seven to 12 years old children."
Kidstudio is a virtual world that lets children make friends, collect and trade thousands of games and videos featuring their favourite TV characters.
