Independent private and institutional client service provider JTC Group has appointed Dirk Oppelaar as the new managing director of its Geneva office.
In his new role, Oppelaar will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the company’s Swiss operation, in addition to acting as a key figure in the ongoing development and implementation of organisational strategy.
Raised in the Netherlands, Oppelaar qualified as a lawyer from the Free University of Amsterdam. He began his career in finance in 1995, working as legal counsel for a Luxembourg trust company focused on corporate secretarial work for blue chip corporates and private equity and real estate funds. He eventually assumed the position of managing director, before moving to a prominent global advisory firm in 2004.
Oppelaar remained with the company until 2013, initially restructuring its corporate secretarial team in Luxembourg and moving to its Geneva office a year later as managing director, where he oversaw the post-acquisition integration of a small trust company. On successful completion, his focus shifted to European business development for the group.
In 2013, Oppelaar assumed the position of partner with a high-end real estate funds consultancy, with a mandate to source direct investment in European real estate for funds, family offices and ultra-high net worth clients.
JTC Group head of private clients Iain Johns says: “Dirk brings with him a rich background in financial and legal services and in particular a proven track record of business development in the field of private clients as well as private equity and real estate funds. His appointment is great news for our clients, staff and intermediary partners and serves as further evidence of our commitment to growing our European business.”
Oppelaar says: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of a team as dynamic, innovative and client-oriented as JTC. I was already familiar with its fantastic reputation as both a service provider and an employer, and now I’m here I can already see why it’s perceived in such a light. I’m thoroughly looking forward to immersing myself in my new role within the JTC family.”
