KBW Asset Management names John B Wimsatt as portfolio manager

KBW Asset Management, a wholly-owned subsidiary of boutique investment bank KBW, has appointed John B Wimsatt as managing director and portfolio manager for the KBW Financial Services Fund

KBW Asset Management, a wholly-owned subsidiary of boutique investment bank KBW, has appointed John B Wimsatt as managing director and portfolio manager for the KBW Financial Services Fund and KBW Small Cap Financial Services Fund, which have a total of more than USD120m in assets under management. Wimsatt succeeds Michael O’Brien, who is retiring from KBW after 22 years, the last eight at KBWAM.

Wimsatt was most recently a portfolio manager and analyst focusing on financial stocks at Levin Capital Strategies, an alternative asset management firm with approximately USD2.5bn in assets under management. Prior to joining Levin, he also held positions at Franklin Mutual Advisors, Weston Capital and Axia Capital Management.

‘John Wimsatt has more than a dozen years of experience working as an analyst and investor in the financial services sector,’ says Peter E. Roth, chief executive of KBWAM. ‘He brings an intimate knowledge of companies, management teams and industry issues that is essential to successfully manage a portfolio in today’s market environment.’

‘Financial services is the single largest sector of the market,’ notes Wimsatt. ‘KBW has a well earned reputation for understanding the sector better than any other firm on Wall Street and it is a thrill to be part of this organization.’

KBW Asset Management is a registered investment advisor that provides institutions and high net worth individuals with investment management services focused exclusively on securities of financial services companies. KBW operates in the US and Europe through its broker-dealer subsidiaries under the Keefe, Bruyette & Woods brand. Founded in 1962, the firm specialises in the banking, insurance, brokerage, asset management, mortgage banking and specialty finance sectors. The firm is active in the areas of research, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions as well as sales and trading for financial services companies.
