Kemoen has held the third closing of the Kempen European Private Equity Fund, the private equity fund of Kempen Capital Management (Kempen) with EUR158 million in commitments.
The private equity fund is exclusively available to clients of Van Lanschot and Kempen.
The fund’s investors are predominantly entrepreneurs, experienced private equity investors, and captains of industry from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Switzerland.
Sven Smeets, co-head Private Markets, says: ‘This group of investors contributes to the broadening of our investment network. The investors in our private equity fund provide not only capital, but also knowledge, experience, and leads for new investments. We see increasing engagement and commitment among our investors to the companies in our portfolio. This way our investors contribute to further value creation in the future. The portfolio of the private equity fund already contains several direct investments that originated from this investment network.’
Marvin de Jong, Director Private Markets, says: ‘Van Lanschot Kempen staff members invest in the fund with their own private capital as well. This “eat your own cooking” principle contributes to a stronger alignment between our own interests and those of our investors. We strongly believe in this principle as it requires mutual commitment with a long-term focus. The fund has a target size of approximately EUR150 to EUR200 million. As this we have almost achieved our target size, we will facilitate new subscriptions over the next period only for a small number of clients. As soon as the maximum target size is achieved, the final closing will be announced.’
The Kempen European Private Equity Fund is a closed-end investment fund with a minimum term of ten years. The fund focuses predominantly on small and lower mid-market European private equity buy-outs. The strategy is aimed at private equity investments in stable, small and medium-sized businesses that are market leaders in their own specific niches. Family businesses with a long history and an understandable business model serve as good examples. The fund applies a long-term horizon, forging alliances with investment partners in several European regions.
