Kirkland & Ellis adds two PE lawyers as New York partners

Michael Weisser and Sarah Stasny have joined the New York office of Kirkland & Elliss as partners in the firm’s Corporate Practice Group with a focus on private equity.

Weisser and Stasny represent many of the leading private equity funds and their portfolio companies in connection with investments, acquisitions, divestitures and other corporate matters. They also represent pension plans and hedge funds in connection with their private equity investments.

“Michael and Sarah are both talented lawyers with an impressive roster of clients, a successful track record and a great reputation in the private equity industry. They have significant experience representing clients on the complex transactions that are the backbone of Kirkland’s private equity practice. Many of our lawyers have worked across the table from Michael and Sarah for years, and now we are delighted to welcome them to Kirkland to bolster our strong transactional team in New York,” says Jeffrey C Hammes, Chairman of Kirkland’s Global Management Executive Committee.

Both Weisser and Stasny join Kirkland from the New York office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, where they were partners.

Weisser, 42, is regularly recognised as a leading lawyer in private equity by Chambers Global, Chambers USA, Legal 500 US, IFLR1000 and other publications. The AmLaw Daily named him “Dealmaker of the Week” in 2010, and Investment Dealers’ Digest named him to its “40 Under 40” list of up-and-coming professionals in the finance industry in 2011. He holds a JD from Columbia Law School and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Stasny, 37, was honoured as one of the M&A Advisor’s 2015 “40 Under 40” and as an M&A “Texas Rising Star” by Texas Super Lawyers. She holds a JD from the University of Texas School of Law and a BA from the University of Texas at Austin.
