Labco continues its European expansion in Germany

Labco, Europe’s largest medical diagnostics group, has acquired AescuLabor Karlsruhe, a medical laboratory in Baden-Württemberg.

Labco, Europe’s largest medical diagnostics group, has acquired AescuLabor Karlsruhe, a medical laboratory in Baden-Württemberg.

The acquisition is part of a strategic collaboration with the Medivision/Endokrinologikum group, a leader in the fields of endocrinology, rheumatology and oncology therapy in Germany.

AescuLabor Karlsruhe will continue serving the diagnostic needs of the Medivision group. Medivision and Labco plan to extend their collaboration.

Since the summer of 2008, Labco has acquired a total of six regional laboratories in Germany, located in the Saarland, Ruhr and the Hessen areas. In the same period, Labco acquired eight additional laboratories outside of Germany.

This wave of growth by acquisition for Labco was supported by additional funding of up to EUR65m by 3i and the completion of the debt bank syndication, as announced just last month.

Dr. Eric Souêtre, chief executive of Labco, says: ‘Despite the difficult economic environment, Labco continues to implement its growth strategy. This acquisition consolidates our presence in the German outpatient laboratory market, enabling us to offer a greater range of high quality services to clients in this country. I look forward to working with the management team of AescuLabor Karlsruhe and our new partners of Medivision.’

Dr. Heinrich Maria Schulte, chief executive of Medivision, adds: ‘I am confident that our collaboration with Labco will open new growth opportunities for both partners. Having a strong laboratory partner in Germany enables us to expand the therapeutic and diagnostic services we provide to our patients and collaborating physicians.’
