Lightspeed Venture Partners, a global venture capital firm with over USD2 billion of committed capital, has promoted John Vrionis (pictured) to managing director.
“John has been a valuable member of our team, driving key investments with some of the most promising enterprise infrastructure startups over the past five years,” says Chris Schaepe, Lightspeed co-founder and managing director. “In this senior role, he will continue to build our strong portfolio in disruptive growth segments relevant to the datacenter, including cloud computing, virtualization, data management, and next generation networking.”
Vrionis joined Lightspeed in 2006 as a senior associate and was later promoted to principal. During this tenure, he led the firm’s investments in a number of innovative startups, including DataStax, Embrane, Fast IP, and IO Turbine. Vrionis was also a member of the investment teams for portfolio companies, including AppDynamics, Cirtas, Delphix, Evolv, MapR Technologies, MuleSoft, Nimble Storage, Pliant, and Tintri.
Matt Pfeil, CEO of DataStax says: “The reputation and expertise of Lightspeed is exceptional. In particular, John’s deep knowledge and understanding of our vision were key in the decision to select this team as an investment partner.”
Prior to Lightspeed, Vrionis held product management and marketing roles at Determina (acquired by VMware) and was an initial member of the executive team at Freedom Financial Network. He holds an MBA from Stanford University, an MS in computer science from the University of Chicago and a BA from Harvard University.
