Lockheed Martin to acquire Advent-backed Ultra Maritime in $3.45bn deal

Lockheed Martin has agreed to acquire Ultra Maritime from private equity firm Advent International in a $3.45bn deal aimed at expanding its naval defence capabilities, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Ultra Maritime specialises in anti-submarine warfare and undersea defence technologies, including sonar sensing systems. Following completion, the business will become part of Lockheed Martin’s rotary and mission systems division, which generated $17.3bn in revenue in 2025 and employs around 35,000 people globally.

The deal comes amid rising demand for defence technology, driven by ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as higher US defence spending.

Ultra Maritime forms part of Cobham Ultra, which was created after Advent acquired Cobham in 2020 and later combined it with Ultra Electronics following a 2022 takeover. The company has recently secured a US Navy development contract for an underwater acoustic decoy and has also partnered with Anduril Industries and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems on autonomous and unmanned anti-submarine warfare technologies.
