Luminous Ventures’ existing portfolio company, Hadean – creator of the cloud-based operating system (HadeanOS) and distributed simulation engine (Aether Engine) – has secured a further GBP7 million investment in a third round of funding.
Luminous Ventures – a venture fund which focuses on supporting early stage deep-tech companies – was Hadean’s original venture investor, funding the startup from concept, and leading through two seed rounds of funding in October 2016 and May 2018.
This current funding is being led by venture capital firm Draper Esprit, with additional investment from Aster Capital and specialist gaming investor LVP. Existing investors Entrepreneur First have also participated.
Powered by Microsoft Azure, Hadean’s ground-breaking technology allows developers and programmers to seamlessly scale their applications at increased speed and ease across the cloud. The multi-use technology is also being used in collaboration with the Francis Crick Institute to drive their research into novel binding sites for tackling diseases like cancer while gaming studio CCP Games is working with Hadean on a 10K player gaming prototype, which will break the record for the most players involved in a single online multiplayer battle.
Luminous Ventures Co-Founder, Isabel Fox, says: “At Luminous Ventures, we like to be the first venture investor, backing technical and scientific founders with a big vision, and daring to invest where others don’t. We have been with Hadean since the first seed round, helping find the Company its CEO, and supporting the go-to-market strategy. This is a hugely exciting time for their ongoing development.”
Hadean’s Co-Founder and CEO, Craig Beddis, says: “We are delighted to have continued support from Luminous Ventures, our original venture investor. They have been with us right from the start, believed in us when others didn’t, provided funding when we needed it and we’re thrilled that they are continuing with us on this journey.”
