Aon has agreed to sell a majority stake in NFP’s wealth management division to private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners in a deal valued at $2.7 billion, marking a swift return of the assets to their former owner, according to a report by Reuters.
Aon acquired NFP from Madison Dearborn in April 2024 for $13bn, a move designed to strengthen its insurance brokerage and advisory offering. But the wealth business, which includes Wealthspire Advisors, Fiducient Advisors and Newport Private Wealth, is being spun off less than 18 months later as Aon refocuses on its core risk and insurance operations.
The divestment is expected to close in Q4 2025, subject to regulatory approvals. Goldman Sachs advised Madison Dearborn, while UBS Investment Bank and Moelis advised Aon.
