Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI) has made an investment on behalf of its clients into the Balko Wind project (Balko Wind), a 300MW installed capacity wind farm located in Beaver County, Oklahoma. Affiliates of D E Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) own Balko Wind. AllianzGI provided funding to refinance Balko Wind’s existing bank financing. The transaction was executed as a “back-leverage” loan in order to tailor the solution to the structure that DESRI had in place.     This is the first infrastructure debt renewable energy investment made by AllianzGI in a project sponsored by DESRI. Global law firm Reed Smith has advised Graphite Capital and Micheldever Group (MTS) on the acquisition of MTS by Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI), Japan’s sixth largest tyre manufacturer.  The sale was made for GBP215 million, 3.7 times the original investment made by Graphite in 2006. MTS is the second largest distributor of car, 4×4 and motorcycle tyres in the UK. Graphite Capital is a leading independent private equity house focused on UK mid-market investments. OakNorth has completed a debt finance deal worth GBP8 million to ICP Nurseries Ltd. The OakNorth loan will be used to further support ICP Nurseries in acquiring leading nursery settings. ICP nurseries is owned by the founder, Tracey Storey, and the private equity firm Innervation Capital Partners. Tracey has worked in senior positions within the children’s nursery sector for over twenty years. ICP Nurseries currently owns: Little Muffins in Chiswick, The Old Barn in Banstead, Childcare4U Marlow and Beaconsfield, and Little Monkeys in central Windsor and Windsor Park. KKR has agreed to acquire Travelopia from TUI AG (TUI). The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions. Travelopia, headquartered in the UK, is a specialist travel groups, providing customers with unique experiences, such as sailing adventures, tailor-made holidays, sports tours, school expeditions, private jet travel and polar expedition cruises. Travelopia has a large, international customer base of over 800,000 travellers each year and serves over 70 destinations globally through its 53 brands. Private equity firm TA Associates has made a minority investment in Retriever Medical/Dental Payments (Retriever), a provider of payment technology and merchant services to healthcare providers. Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. Pamplona Capital Management (Pamplona), along with Ascent Venture Partners (Ascent), has committed USD100 million to Nova Sciences Holdings (Nova), a new platform formed to acquire metering, monitoring, measurement and control instrumentation businesses. Nova is led by highly experienced CEO Jim Barbookles and a senior management team that has worked together for fourteen years, during which time they have successfully executed several prior sector consolidations in the industrial instrumentation industry.
