Galena Asset Management has held the final close of its first Private Equity Resources Fund with USD400 million of total committed and invested assets. The fund invests in both the equity and debt of small-to medium-sized metals and mining companies, particularly those that are in a development or expansion phase.   The fund will benefit from the trading and technical expertise of parent company Trafigura.   The investment team joined Galena in 2012 with a successful track record of investing in the mining resources space exclusively for Trafigura since 2005.   Duncan Letchford, Galena’s chief executive, says: “Another positive step
Private equity firm Parthenon Capital Partners has completed the sale of portfolio company Sequoia Golf Holdings to ClubCorp for approximately USD265 million. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Sequoia owns or operates 50 private clubs, semi-private and resort golf facilities located across the US.   Its portfolio includes the world-class 63-hole Woodlands Country Club located in the master-planned community of The Woodlands, Texas, a collection of four Atlanta-based premium high-end Sequoia clubs, 25 private Canongate clubs and a select group of golf properties managed for institutional owners, corporations, private investors and equity memberships.   The company began operations in 2003 with the

Ashurst has advised Inflexion Private Equity on the simultaneous first and final closings of two new private equity funds. Inflexion Buyout Fund IV and Inflexion Partnership Capital Fund I were raised in a parallel process over just five months, securing commitments of GBP650m and GBP400m respectively.   Both funds were over-subscribed and closed at their hard caps after receiving strong support from existing investors as well as attracting new investors from the US, Asia and Middle East.   Over 35 blue chip investors have committed to the two funds, including state and corporate pension plans, insurance companies and sovereign wealth funds.
Montagu Private Equity is to sell its entire holding in Euromedic International to Waypoint. Waypoint is already the majority investor in Euromedic through Ares Life Sciences and will now assume full ownership.   Headquartered in Budapest, Euromedic is a provider of Advanced Diagnostics Imaging (ADI) and cancer care (CC) services in Europe. It owns and operates 144 centres across 14 countries. Euromedic’s ADI business mainly comprises magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) whilst also including other modalities such as ultrasound and mammography. Europe’s executives are more bullish about the European mergers and acquisitions (M&A) outlook than they were a year ago, according to research by law firm CMS and Mergermarket. Two thirds of respondents expect M&A activity will increase, with 11 per cent anticipating a significant increase.   This compares with 47 per cent of 2013 interviewees expecting deal-making to increase, and just one per cent expecting M&A to increase greatly. Bluestem Brands is to be acquired by Capmark Financial Group for approximately USD565 million in cash, subject to various pre-and post-closing adjustments. Zolfo Cooper has overseen the sale of 43 Strada restaurants to Strada Trading Limited, a subsidiary of SCP Sugar Limited, an entity within Sun Capital Partners, co-founded by industry expert Hugh Osmond. The sale forms a major part of the restructuring of the Tragus Group, which previously owned Strada.   Zolfo Cooper was appointed earlier this year to assist Tragus to undertake a financial and operational restructuring of its business.     As well as acquiring the sites, Strada Trading Limited will also employ all associated restaurant and head office staff. LBO France, via its Hexagone III fund, has acquired an 80 per cent stake in Payot, a French cosmetics and skincare laboratory, alongside a new management team led by Italian entrepreneur Andrea Surliuga. Payot was created in 1920 by dermatologist Nadia Payot. The company became part of Spain-based Puig in 2001.   In 2013, Payot had over EUR25 million in revenues, 70 per cent of which came from outside of France.   Surliuga is the former CEO and owner of Dibi Cosmetics, which was sold to a large Italian cosmetics group in 2009.   Surliuga says: “This is a major

Alternative asset manager LFPI Group has reached a conditional agreement to acquire a majority stake in Ergalis Group, a specialist in the French recruitment process outsourcing sector. With a turnover of EUR160m and comprising 69 regional agencies specialised by businesses, Ergalis employs nearly 4,000 daily temporary workers to more than 4,500 corporate clients.   LFPI becomes the majority shareholder of the group alongside the Ergalis management which will be reinforced as part of the operation. Omnes Capital is selling its stake in Legoupil Industrie to a consortium of investment funds led by Bpifrance and Capitem. Since it was founded in 1976, Legoupil Industrie has been based in the Vire region of France, and it specialises in designing, making, renting out and selling industrial buildings used for storage and production purposes, along with modular buildings. The group also operates in the interior fittings market.
