New Mountain Capital has closed its latest direct lending fund, New Mountain Guardian III with approximately USD1.15 billion of capital commitments from a diverse group of investors.  Commitments included a substantial investment from the General Partner and employees of the Firm. The Fund is expected to have approximately USD2.0 billion in investable capital, including leverage. Carbon Capture (CarbonCapture), a climate tech company that makes machines that remove CO2 directly from the atmosphere, has closed a USD35 million Series A funding round and appointed Adrian Corless as CEO.  CarbonCapture will use the funds to accelerate product development efforts and to establish initial deployments of its renewable energy-powered Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems in locations throughout the U.S., starting with the Tamarack Nickel Project in central Minnesota in partnership with Rio Tinto PLC (LSE: RIO) and Talon Metals Corp. Taussig Capital has acquired all of the voting shares of Spencer Re I I, an International Insurance Company founded in 2006 and licensed in Puerto Rico. Joseph Taussig, CEO of Taussig Capital, founded Spencer Re 16 years ago and served as its chairman until 2014. The company is being re-branded as Taussig Capital Re and will offer reinsurance to primary insurers and reinsurers looking to optimise their reinsurance programs and access non-traditional sources of insurance capital. Sofinnova Partners, a European life sciences venture capital firm based in Paris, London and Milan, has closed its latest early-stage healthcare venture capital fund, Sofinnova Capital X, oversubscribed at EUR472 million (USD548 million). 
Primer has closed a Series B funding round that values the payments infrastructure startup at USD425 million only 20 months after being founded. The USD50 million Series B fundraise was led by ICONIQ Growth, a San Francisco based investment firm that has backed global tech companies such as Adyen and Marqeta to Snowflake and Datadog. Existing investors, including Accel, Balderton Capital, Seedcamp, Speedinvest, and RTP Global all participated in the round.  Primer, which was founded in early 2020 by ex-Paypal/Braintree employees and employs more than 70 people across 20 countries, has built the world’s first automation platform for payments. Orgnostic, a people analytics platform helping fast-growing companies to democratise people analytics, has raised USD5 million in funding. The seed round was led by Earlybird Digital East, and includes participation from a roster of impressive investors, including Script Capital and angel investors including Eric Ries and Tiho Bajic of Lean Startup and LTSE, Rony Kahan of Indeed, and Charlie Songhurst of Microsoft. This is in addition to previous investment from South Central Ventures.   In recent years, a huge number of different tools have been made available to HR professionals each focusing on different elements of the people management stack.
Calculus portfolio company, CloudTrade, has been acquired by Advanced, a provider of business software, delivering a four-times return to Calculus investors in just over three years.   The CloudTrade platform, which automatically processes and interprets electronic documents, is primarily used to automate invoice handling for large companies, which saves time, improves accuracy and reduces cost. Calculus invested, from its EIS and VCT funds, in July 2018, having been impressed by the patented technology, strong management team and large addressable market. BGF has made a successful exit from Magma Global Limited, a provider of composite pipe technology to support the Energy Transition. The Portsmouth-based company has been acquired by TechnipFMC plc, a leading technology provider to the traditional and new energy industries, delivering fully integrated projects, products, and services.   BGF backed Magma in December 2012 and has supported the business’ expansion efforts over the past eight years.   The initial investment allowed Magma to export tools and equipment to key overseas markets and expand its recruitment prospects as the business grew internationally.    Mark Bryant, head of manufacturing at BGF,
