HarbourVest Partners, a global private markets investment specialist, has marked its 40th anniversary.
Founded in 1982 by Brooks Zug and Ed Kane, HarbourVest has committed more than $49 billion to newly-formed funds across its private markets platform, completed over $40 billion in secondary purchases, and invested over $27 billion directly in operating companies across many sectors and through multiple economic cycles.
HarbourVest has supported more than 30,000 portfolio companies and held more than 900 advisory seats. Today, HarbourVest is a trusted partner to its clients and general partners around the world with more than $92 billion in AUM.
Slate Capital Group, a private equity investment firm that partners with lower-middle market companies, has expanded in the US Midwest with new local presences in Nashville and Cincinnati.
Parker Davis will manage the Baltimore office, where Slate was established in 2004. Erik Ginsberg and Rick Corcoran will manage the Nashville and Cincinnati offices, respectively.
The firm provides liquidity to business owners and growth capital to businesses with annual earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) of $3-15 million. Slate Capital Group’s primary areas of focus include business services, distribution, and select light manufacturing.
Maven Capital Partners (Maven) has announced it has reached an important milestone as it celebrates £60 million of investment in North West businesses from NPIF – Maven Equity Finance which is part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (NPIF).
It also reaffirms Maven’s position as one of the UK’s most active investors in high growth smaller companies.

First American Financial Corporation has launched the official brand and website for the company’s venture capital arm – Parker89.
Since 2019, First American’s venture capital arm has invested over $350 million in more than 20 high-growth proptech companies, many of which have become strategic partners and customers.
Parker89’s investment strategy will continue to focus on early-stage companies and entrepreneurs that are reimagining residential and commercial real estate, including tech-enabled brokerages and marketplaces, agent tools, lenders, mortgage software, and fractional homeownership.
Ten fund managers active in Africa’s tech space have been selected from across the continent for the LAUNCH Capital Provider Fellowship Program, facilitated by the Collaborative for Frontier Finance (CFF), with the main objective of further advancing the capacity of these local capital providers (LCPs) to raise institutional capital.

Global investment firm KKR has launched Aster Renewable Energy (Aster), a newly created renewables platform, to develop, build, and operate solar, wind and energy storage projects in Taiwan and Vietnam, with a view to expand to other markets in Asia.
Headquartered in Singapore, Aster looks to invest behind high-quality renewable energy assets by leveraging the team’s leading development expertise.
Aster will be led by CEO Chen Wei, an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience managing and building renewable energy businesses across Asia.
Venture capital investment manager, Deepbridge Capital has deployed a record £31.5 million into early-stage technology and life sciences companies during the 2021/22 tax year, up from £29.4 million in 2020/21.
Providing private investors with access to portfolios of innovative and growth focused companies, Deepbridge manages the Deepbridge Technology Growth EIS and Deepbridge Life Sciences EIS funds which offer private investors significant tax reliefs via the UK Government’s Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS).
Some 52 companies received funding via Deepbridge in 2021/22, based across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Companies to receive funding included the likes of rocket propulsion pioneers
