Last week was the biggest week for VCT fundraising this tax year with investors pouring GBP44.6m into VCTs. Over half of that (GBP24.5 million) was channeled into Octopus Titan, analysis from Wealth Club reveals. Investment funds managed by TDR Capital, a UK based private equity investor, are to acquire 100 percent of NKD Group. TDR Capital and NKD’s current shareholder, OpCapita, have signed a sale & transfer agreement to that effect. The transaction is subject to the customary antitrust approval. Established in 1962, NKD Group is among the leading ‘value retailers’ and local suppliers to the textiles retail trade in Central Europe. Standard Industrial Manufacturing Partners (Standard) has merged with DH Pump and Supply (DH Pump). A private equity fund managed by Hicks Equity Partners (HEP), the Dallas-based private equity arm of the Thomas O Hicks family office, initially invested in Standard alongside its former CEO, Jack Sitton, in July 2016.  Financial terms of this latest transaction have not ben disclosed.   Headquartered in Odessa, Texas with additional manufacturing in Granbury, Texas, Standard manufactures and distributes replacement parts for a wide range of pumps used in production and completion applications within the oil and gas industry. Belfast-based health tech company, Neurovalens, has secured one of the largest ever Series A investments generated by a Northern Irish technology company.  The company specialises in using neuroscience to solve everyday health issues. The GBP4.6 million raise was led by London-based Wharton Asset Management along with Cambridge based IQ Capital. Hampleton Partners, an international mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance advisory firm for technology companies, has advised 2getthere Holding, a manufacturer of driverless electric shuttles, on its majority acquisition by ZF Friedrichshafen. Themis, an Africa-focussed power company backed by Denham Capital, is partnering with Kingline Development Nigeria Limited (Kingline) to develop a 550MW natural gas-fired power plant in Ondo State, Nigeria. The Kingline Power Project is currently in its development stage with a target to proceed to financial close by Q2 2020, becoming fully operational in 2022. Omnes has announced a 15 per cent investor net IRR on its EUR134 million Capenergie 2 fund, which is focused on renewable energy and launched in 2010.  The value-add infrastructure fund ranks among the top performers in the sector in Europe; generating an investor net multiple of 2x.   Omnes is a pioneer in the energy transition sector, with the launch of its first fund in 2006 and EUR1.3 billion in assets under management in this field.   The purpose of the Capenergie funds is to invest in independent power producers across Europe, providing them with private equity growth capital.
Aquila Capital has acquired a portfolio of project rights for renewable energy projects in Spain with a total capacity of more than 700 MW.  It consists of over 400 MW of onshore wind projects and around 300 MW of solar projects, construction of which is expected to commence by the end of 2019 with grid connection expected by 2021. Based on the very favourable local conditions and the strong decrease of technology costs over recent years, renewable energies in Spain can be operated profitably independent of state subsidies. ThinCats, a fintech lender for mid-sized SMEs, has launched a new GBP100 million funding programme for private equity backed UK businesses. ThinCats has close to GBP1 billion of capital to invest and is seeing increasing demand from private equity backed businesses to fund larger sized deals up to GBP15 million.   The new funding programme follows a series of recent loans facilitated by Dave Sherrington, Regional Head of Sales at ThinCats to businesses in partnership with leading private equity houses.
