Mercury Partners, a real estate alternative investment management company with more than USD2.2bn of assets under management, including around USD900m of Asian real property assets, has announced the appointment of Lawrence Sperling as its head of Asia private equity.

Sperling, 48, has over 20 years of experience in real estate principal investing, lending and securitisation. Before joining Mercury, he was a managing director and head of the real estate strategic transactions group for Credit Suisse for the Asia Pacific region based in Tokyo.

Over 14 years at Credit Suisse, Sperling he was involved in more than USD7.5bn of real estate-related principal investments, loans and securitisations in the Asia Pacific region, and deals totalling more than USD15bn in the US. He was previously a vice-president of Eastdil Realty, having joined in 1987.

Mercury was founded in 2000 by David Jarvis and Malcolm MacLean. Mercury and its affiliates currently employ 35 people and operate from offices in Greenwich, Connecticut, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Beijing. Its global research team focuses on investment opportunities in the commercial and residential real estate sectors, with a particular emphasis on the US and Asia.

Says Mercury chief executive Jarvis: ‘We have worked closely with Larry at Credit Suisse for several years on a number of successful Asian real estate investments. We look forward to adding his considerable experience, relationships and leadership to our deal making in Asia.’
