Mid Europa portfolio company Hortex, a consumer business in Poland active in frozen and juice categories, is to acquire Jurajska. The transaction is subject to anti-trust clearance and is expected to close in Q1 2019.
Jurajska is an independent player in branded natural and flavoured mineral water in Poland. Jurajska water originates from a deep, geologically isolated source in the ecologically clean and protected region of Polish Jura, which results in unique characteristics – pristine purity, balanced and stable mineral composition rich in calcium and magnesium and low in sodium.
Paweł Padusiński, Partner and Co-Head of Mid Europa’s Warsaw office, says: “The acquisition of Jurajska further strengthens Hortex’s market position in Poland. It is consistent with our strategy to expand into new and adjacent product categories, both organically and through M&A. By tapping into the large and growing water segment, Hortex will complement its existing beverage portfolio with attractive SKUs.”
Paweł Gurgul, the CEO of Hortex, adds: “We believe in the strength of Jurajska’s brand and its further dynamic growth potential. Hortex’s entry into the water segment is a great opportunity for us to increase the scale of our drinks category and better utilise Hortex’s distribution capabilities and innovations know-how.”
Paweł Caruk, Marek Rodak and Bartosz Małecki supported Hortex management in executing the transaction.
Hortex and Mid Europa were advised by Vienna Capital Partners, Clifford Chance and EY.
