MK Capital leads USD7m investment round in MOVIECLIPS

MK Capital announces it has led a USD7M Series B Round in, which has the largest library of licensed movie clips on the web. MOVIECLIPS offers more than 20,000 clips from six major Hollywood studios, as well as curated lists of clips, games, and a discovery engine to guide viewers to new clips.

“We are especially pumped to have a new funding partner in MK Capital. MK has great experience and knowledge in building a premium video experience on YouTube,” says Zach James, Co-Founder of

MK Capital, which has offices in Santa Monica and Chicago, is also the initial and largest investor in Machinima, the most viewed content provider on YouTube. MK believes mega platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Apple IOS and Android will become much like the cable or satellite operators of the past 20 years, and the digital content video aggregators that emerge on these new platforms will be the content brands of the future.

“Based on our direct experience in this space, we find MOVIECLIPS’ business to be extremely promising,” said Mark Terbeek, a partner at MK Capital. “We have been a part of Machinima’s dramatic growth to massive scale since 2008, and we believe MOVIECLIPS is comparably positioned. As the once-huge DVD market continues to be rapidly replaced by online movie purchases, rentals and subscriptions, we believe a searchable video-based clip experience will be the preferred way most movie fans will discover and select movies.”

MOVIECLIPS’ Content Curators assign up to 1,000 points of relevant data points to every scene relating to everything including action, mood, setting, and prop. This deep meta-data enables consumers to discover movies through curated lists and games.

“Our goal is to promote the discovery of movies,” says MOVIECLIPS Co-Founder Richard Raddon. “By making our clips accessible on the biggest video platform on the web, we unlock the power of movie clips to promote feature film purchase and rental.”

MOVIECLIPS recently announced a partnership with Google to provide its library of licensed HD clips to YouTube. The clips will be featured in the Movie Extras on the YouTube VOD platform ( and will be accessible through the MOVIECLIPS YouTube channel (

Mark Terbeek of MK Capital will join Sean Flynn (Shasta Ventures) and Adam Lilling (Launchpad LA) on the MOVIECLIPS Board of Directors. MK Capital’s Yair Landau, who served as Vice Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, will become a Board Observer.

“I’m happy to bring my years of studio experience and deep relationships to help MOVIECLIPS realize its tremendous potential,” said Yair Landau, a partner at MK.
