Morgan Lewis has added a four-lawyer team resident in London with wide-ranging private investment funds experience. The team, which arrives from another global law firm, includes partners Oliver Rochman and Rob Mailer and two associates.
“The arrival of Oliver, Rob, and their team further enhances our robust global investment management team with more than 150 lawyers around the world,” says firm chair Jami McKeon. “Their comprehensive experience and skills will be of great value to our investment fund and institutional investor clients as they navigate through this period of uncertainty and look ahead to future opportunities.”
Rochman advises both sponsors and investors on private investment funds, in particular, private equity funds, private debt funds, funds of funds, and venture capital funds. His broad experience includes counselling clients on management matters, carried interest arrangements, and co-investment schemes. He also has significant experience in innovative fund restructuring, secondary transactions, and co-investments.
Mailer focuses on private investment fund formation and fundraising, representing managers and investors across a wide range of strategies, including growth, venture capital, infrastructure, debt, and buy-out. He particularly focuses on clients investing in new technologies such as artificial intelligence and fintech, and has substantial experience advising teams on spin outs, the establishment of new fund management companies, and defaulting investor and other ongoing and end-of-life funds issues.
“We are delighted that Oliver, Rob, and their team have decided to join our firm,” says Timothy Levin, leader of Morgan Lewis’s global investment management practice. “Their diverse experience and market perspective presents increased opportunities for our sponsor-side and investor clients, where we continue to see an appetite for US-based clients to make inroads into other markets and London-based clients competing in the global funds markets.”
Morgan Lewis has one of the largest and most diverse investment management teams in the world. From offices in financial centres across the United States, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, Morgan Lewis lawyers advise funds, managers, financial services firms, and institutional investors on the full spectrum of matters, including formation, investment, transactional, regulatory, and compliance. To best serve them, Morgan Lewis recently welcomed partner Donald Waack, a financial services partner resident in Washington, DC, and earlier added a diverse team of investment management, tax, and corporate lawyers in Abu Dhabi and Washington, DC.
“The team led by Oliver and Rob bring further depth to our London and European investment management offering to clients,” says Frances Murphy, managing partner of Morgan Lewis’s London office. “In addition to their strong fund formation practice, they provide expanded institutional investor representation in London, which aligns well with our leading practice representing the world’s most significant sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, and other asset managers.”
