Morrison Foerster adds new head of private equity practice in New York

Jonathan M A Melmed has been appointed as head of Morrison & Foerster’s private equity practice in New York. He was previously a partner with Chadbourne & Park and head of that firm’s Canada practice.

Melmed represents private equity funds and portfolio companies, along with hedge funds, public companies and investment banks in M&A deals and other transactions. He brings particular experience in the alternative energy, infrastructure, media, telecommunications, and life sciences sectors.

Melmed’s clients have included Strategic Value Partners, OMERS Capital Partners, EnerTech Capital, BMO Capital, Morguard and Harbinger Capital Partners.

Melmed follows several other recent corporate partners to MoFo in recent weeks. The firm recently added Justin Stock, who joined in London from O’Melveny, and Erik Knudsen, who joined in Denver from Kirkland & Ellis. Also this month MoFo’s New York office added longtime Dewey & LeBoeuf partner Domnick Bozzetti, an accomplished tax lawyer who regularly handles executive compensation and other benefits issues in large M&A transactions.

MoFo’s corporate group continues play a key role in large M&A deals. In May, the firm represented DaVita Inc in its USD4.42 billion acquisition of HealthCare Partners Holdings. In other assignments, the firm represented Novellus in its USD3.3 billion merger with Lam Research, which was the largest stock-for-stock technology deal in 2011. MoFo also handled the USD5 billion sale of Hitachi Global Storage Technologies to Western Digital, while representing Intel in a series of key strategic acquisitions such as its USD7.7 billion acquisition of McAfee Systems and its USD1.4 billion acquisition of the Wireless Solutions unit of Infineon Technologies AG.
M&A Advisor named Morrison & Foerster Law Firm of the Year in 2012 for the second straight year, and Chambers USA has shortlisted Morrison & Foerster for its 2012 Awards for Excellence in M&A.
