Alternative assets under management reached a record USD7.7 trillion in 2017, according to a new survey by BNY Mellon, and look set to increase further with over half of respondents expecting allocations to alternatives to increase in the next 12 months, up from 39 per cent in 2016.
Private equity has the highest share of institutions’ alternative asset allocations and highest levels of outperformance (36 per cent of respondents said results were better than expected). But the rising stars are real estate and private debt, whose share of allocation continues to grow.

KKR is teaming up with Ron Voigt, formerly an executive at Danaher Corporation, to work together to identify and acquire mid-market businesses in the industrials sector.
Together with KKR, Voigt will focus on acquiring manufacturing businesses generating roughly USD25 to USD50 million of EBITDA. Once a company has been acquired, they will aim to support the business in achieving breakthrough performance and growth while also implementing an innovative employee engagement model utilised in KKR’s industrials transactions in recent years.

APEXX, a single marketplace for global payments, has closed an initial seed funding round and been awarded a grant by Innovate UK, activity totalling USD4 million (GBP3.2 million).
The round was led by Forward Partners, a top London-based VC which specialises in applied artificial intelligence (AI) and have previously invested in EmpowerRD, Ably and Epic. The round was also supported by MMC Ventures and Alliance Venture, based in Oslo, Norway.

Yukon Partners (Yukon) has held the final closing of Yukon Capital Partners III, and its associated parallel funds, at its hard cap of USD558.7 million in total capital commitments.
Since its inception in 2008, Yukon has raised over USD1.2 billion in total capital commitments across three funds. Fund III will be invested by Yukon’s partner group; Michael Hall, William Dietz, and Michael Furey who combined, have executed more than 81 investments representing over USD1.3 billion of invested capital since 2000.

The State Street Investor Confidence Index (ICI) for November 2017 decreased to 97.1, down 1.0 point from October’s revised reading of 98.1.
The minor decline in global sentiment was driven largely by a 12.0 point drop in the European ICI to 81.0. By contrast, the North American ICI rose by 3.7 points to 102.6 and the Asian ICI increased by 1.0 point to 97.5.
