London-based alternatives investment manager Astarte Capital Partners has formed a partnership with BlueLake Associates, a Zug-based investment consultancy and asset allocation specialist.
Through this partnership, Astarte will act as the private equity and real assets adviser to BlueLake, while BlueLake will contribute macroeconomic, asset allocation and risk management advisory services to Astarte.
“We believe that this cross-fertilisation of skill sets will strengthen each company’s respective research infrastructure, resulting in added value for our clients,” says Stavros Siokos, managing partner for Astarte. “The goal is to strengthen our respective offerings and provide innovative financial solutions to our clients.”

Henkel has entered into exclusive negotiations with GCP Applied Technologies to acquire its global Darex Packaging Technologies business for USD1.05 million (EUR995 million) on a cash and debt free basis.
Darex is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and supplies high-performance sealants and coatings for the metal packaging industry around the world. It serves various global customers producing beverage, food or aerosol cans, ensuring with its solutions the highest quality standards for many best-known brands.
In fiscal 2016, Darex Packaging Technologies generated sales of around USD300 million (around EUR285 million). Darex has about 700 employees and 20 sites in 19 countries.
The risks posed to the UK private equity industry by recent political events have been grossly exaggerated, according to Matthew Hudson, chief executive of MJ Hudson, the alternative assets consultancy.
Hudson (pictured) sees the emergence of passive private equity funds and the trillion-user base of large retail platforms, such as Snap and Facebook, as potentially the greatest threat to the traditional private equity fund manager.
Speaking at SuperReturn International in Berlin, the world's largest private equity event, he dismissed concerns around Trump's election and the Brexit vote, arguing that investors should look to both the US and the UK to buy assets.

The California Hedge Fund Association (CHFA) has adopted the California Alternative Investments Association (CalALTs) as its new brand name.

Global Loan Agency Services, the UK parent of the global GLAS companies, has now received US regulatory approval and the newly chartered GLAS Trust Company will be regulated by the State of New Hampshire.
Regulation as a trust company will allow GLAS to conduct its activities through its headquarters in London as well as internally in the US on such transactions which require the Trustee to be a state-chartered fiduciary under the Trust Indenture Act.

Teton Advisors has acquired certain assets of Keeley Asset Management Corp (KAMCO), a pioneer in small and mid-cap value investing founded by John L Keeley, Jr in 1982.
Serving as the acquisition vehicle is Keeley-Teton Advisors, a newly formed and wholly-owned subsidiary of Teton. At closing, the combined firms have USD3.8 billion assets under management (AUM).
Keeley Teton, headquartered in Chicago, is led by Kevin Keeley, executive chairman, and Robert Kurinsky, president and COO. As a result of the merger, G Distributors, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gabelli Funds, will distribute the Keeley Funds.
Nicholas Galluccio, chief executive of
Perella Weinberg Partners has appointed David Azéma as a partner in the firm’s advisory business.
Azéma will lead the firm’s investment banking practice in France, providing strategic and financial advice to clients in the country. He will be based in London.
Azéma joins from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he was chairman of global infrastructure and vice chairman of global corporate and investment banking for Europe since 2014.
From 2012 to 2014, Azéma oversaw the French government’s holdings in strategic companies, including inter alia EDF, Engie, Orange, Renault, Safran and Airbus, as head of Agence des participations
A technology business has launched a new way of matching firms starved of cash with businesses who are willing to purchase their invoices.
PeerPay has developed a cloud-based platform that links the larger, cash-rich firms within an accountant’s client portfolio with smaller, client companies within the same community looking for money to grow.
The brainchild of founders accountant David Ireson-Hughes, Michael King, an experienced financial services executive, and Alan Burns, an experienced technologist, the platform – called FloFunder – is a new twist on the traditional peer-to-peer invoice finance model.

The Channel Islands Securities Exchange (CISE) has made two changes to its board of directors.
Stephen Lansdown (pictured) will step down from the board with effect from the annual general meeting in June to focus on his other business interests.
Isle of Man-based Anderson Whamond has joined the board with immediate effect.
The announcements come after an extraordinary general meeting where shareholders of the CISE approved changing the company name to The International Stock Exchange Group (TISEG). This is part of a wider rebrand of the exchange to The International Stock Exchange (TISE) with effect from 6 March
Cyber-security software firm ZoneFox has closed a GBP3.6 million Series A funding round led by Scottish business angel investment syndicate Archangels, with co-investment from The Scottish Investment Bank and TriCap.
Based in Edinburgh, ZoneFox focuses on providing security systems that effectively combat the growing issue of insider threats to businesses across the financial, pharma, gaming and other business sectors.
Its customers include healthcare firm Craneware, Zenith Bank and Rockstar Games.
